The windy Punta Arenas is the most important city of the South of Chile and the base to expeditions to Antartica and Torres del Paine National Park, a 4 hours drive.
The city itself is not much interesting, but not far are colonies of penguins and is possible to see the impressive and wild plains of Patagonia.
Punta Arenas is known by the strong winds, take with you warm waterproof clothes. Be careful about the weather conditions, specially at the beginning of austral winter; in early april of 2001 passengers of a cruise had problems being back to the cruise; the port was closed for 2 days.
